Timothy De Monk discovered a passion for music in 2014, when he learnt how to play the guitar and found that he could not put the instrument down.
“We were at a family gathering and my cousin was playing guitar and singing, and I thought it would be amazing if I could do that. He then asked me if I would like to play the guitar and I received my first lesson on that day”, says Timothy.
After grasping the basics of the guitar, he then began his music career by performing at various restaurants in Cape Town.
Timothy’s turning point came after a guest spot performance at the Octopus Garden restaurant in Muizenberg, when he was spotted by music producer, Jahn Beukes and was booked into the recording studio soon thereafter.
Timothy recorded his debut EP, “Hazy Days”, which was recorded at Mighty Music Studios and released on 5 December 2015. He describes his EP as: “expressing myself through my music. It is about my emotions put into songs. It is about what I love most: the people in my life, life experiences and the things I enjoy most in life.”
In 2016, whilst still in high school, Timothy spent the year writing and recording demo’s which would form the start of his professional recording career.
